The really wonderful thing about this site, is there is never a shortage of Bullshit.
Record Oil Company Profits.
Exxon Mobil posts largest quarterly profit ever
Gain of $9.92 billion is the largest quarterly profit ever for a U.S. company
This is a short rant.
I don't think you need much editorializing to see the bullshit here.
Exxon-Moble posted the largest quarterly profit EVER, at a time when the world at large is suffering.
The world’s largest publicly traded oil company said Thursday high oil and natural-gas prices helped its third-quarter profit surge almost 75 percent to $9.92 billion, the largest quarterly profit for a U.S. company ever, and it was the first to ring up more than $100 billion in quarterly sales.
Net income ballooned to $9.92 billion, or $1.58 per share, from $5.68 billion, or 88 cents per share, a year ago.
If costs are going up, profit margins should go DOWN. Only the oil industry can claim shortages,
supply problems, rising costs, and turn a HUGE PROFIT on the backs of the consumer, the country,
and the world.
This, and we have an oilman in the white house. Looking at latest poll results, it seems that at least SOME of the country
has had enough of this bullshit.
I fully support a windfall profits tax of 100%. War profiteering is illegal, immoral, and should be treasonous.
The money should go to victims and their families of the war for oil in Iraq, and to help rebuild in the wake of Katrina -- an area without a
Bush in governorship. Money should also go to the earthquake efforts before these people die in the approaching winter.
9.92 Billion is an obscene profit on the rape of our planet, and the abuse of it's population. Oil comes from the planet, and belongs to the
world, not to a few who try to control it. It belongs to the people, not the oil companies, and we've tolerated this situation for too long.
This "profit" clearly shows how far out of control it has become. Oil should be regulated like a utility, and profit margins, and total profits
capped. Windfall Profits Taxes are designed to do that, they need to be implemented NOW, and the money used immediately for relief.
Despite all the "hardships", the oil companies posted record profits while the people paid more at the pumps, and suffered to make ends meet.
It was a slap in the face to EVERYONE to see that. The fact they would dare to profit, and post such earnings at this time, shows the
insensitivity of the industry, and our leadership for allowing it to happen. Those "profits" came from the dollars of the country forced
to pay the prices, and obviously, those prices were NOT NECESSARY!! The oil companies should have posted a LOSS, or at least lower earnings,
at a time when costs are rising, but they pass EVERY LITTLE INCREASE ON to the consumer IMMEDIATELY -- even BEFORE those costs actually are
incurred.
Enough. It's making me sick. For those who need a bit more graphical illustration of what the high price of oil is buying,
take a look at this slide show that was sent to me. You need the free Microsoft Power Point Viewer to view it.
You may need to right-click on the link, and save it to your computer, or answer "save" to the download prompt. Some of the viewers
seem to look for the old style file name. The file *is* good, and does download, and really should be seen by the American people.
I don't know the origins of the file, so if you have some info, you can send it to us.
